June 2017 – Hard to believe, but it has been over one month since we launched Contigo! In that time, we have experienced a lot of “firsts” including: acquiring a dinghy (affectionately known as “Booey”, though Mr. Esworthy you do still have official naming rights), braving the Atlantic Ocean, and finding purpose for that mysterious black button in the galley next to our stove (pumps out excess water accumulated in the fridge).
Contigo Launched!
May 2017 – It has been some time since we posted our last update, and we have a lot to share about the time spent with friends and family in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Maryland... but it turns out that preparing a boat for launch is hard work! There were items in our to-do list that required completion before Contigo went in the water and we sailed her away: bottom paint, propeller maintenance, renaming, selling Karl's car, to identify a few. A Month in India
March 2017 - We landed in Delhi at 4AM on the last Friday of February, and took a quiet, early morning taxi ride to our hotel that belied the energy (chaos!) that we would soon learn India dishes out in spades. Following our first necessary dose of warm masala chai (which we both decided will … Continue reading A Month in India
Two Fish Jump Ship
February 2017 - In January, we returned to Brooklyn from a sunny holiday in Costa Rica visiting Karl’s family, and our revitalized selves switched into selling mode. We tried to sell just about everything but our bed and nightstand tables through Craigslist, AptDeco, and our building's listserv website. The process - particularly sales through Craigslist - … Continue reading Two Fish Jump Ship
We Bought a Boat!
November 2016 - Our sailing adventure in Grenada accelerated our NYC departure plans; the plan felt right. The day after we returned, Karl and I decided to start looking at sailboats to purchase. We still left ourselves the option of owning the boat and "weekend sailing" the Long Island Sound for a few more years before … Continue reading We Bought a Boat!
Grenada Bareboat Instruction
August 2016 - “Whatever blows your hair back, Conner.” – Shawn, our kick-a** South African sailing instructor…and life coach. In early 2016, Karl signed us up for a week-long liveaboard sailing course (ASA Certifications 101, 103, 104) in Grenada with Nautilus Sailing. Our “let's move aboard a sailboat” timing was still fluid at this point. We … Continue reading Grenada Bareboat Instruction
